Well, it's official, Cumberland Shuffle is over. Our fifth and final year was the absolute best, a total blowout--just like we hoped it would be!

Lucky for us, we've got some lovely photos and videos to remember our old-timey time by. Be sure to check out the pictures and videos from this year's event!

  • Videos courtesy of our 2013 event videographer, Andrew Rozario, can be found HERE
  • Our 2013 event photographer, Jess Keener, also took a bunch of great shots (see just a few of them above). Check them out on Facebook, HERE . You can also contact Jess directly to order prints, via her website!
  • Don't forget about the videos put together by the Cumberland Shuffle team to help pump you up for the event! You can view all of our promo videos on our Videos page.

By far the biggest thing about this year was that we wanted to make it the best party ever, to serve as the culmination of the past 5 years of old-timey celebration and dancing that the event has come to be. We definitely met our goal in that regard! But while the event has been Morgan and Breanna's baby, we definitely couldn't have done it without all the support that we've had. We've put out thank-yous on Facebook all week since the end of the event, but here's a quick list. Know that, from the bottom of our hearts, we appreciate everything that any and every single one of you has done for the event! We wouldn't have any success at all without any of you. So, huge thank-yous to:

  • Our DJ for 2013, the infallible Rob Moreland, as well as all of our DJs over the past years for providing great dance music;
  • Our band for the 2013 weekend, those goodhearted Low-Down Sires, as well as all of our bands over the past years, for keeping us energized and dancing;
  • Our photographer for 2013, the lovely Jess Keener, as well as all our previous event photographers, for giving us something to remember the good times by;
  • Our 2013 event videographer, Andrew Rozario, for sharing his skills and vision with us and producing such great video of the weekend, as well as anybody who put up video from past events so that we can remember the years gone by;
  • Nick Weinmiller for his unending support and willingness to create beautiful graphics and materials for us;
  • Our 2013 instructors Mike Faltesek, Casey Schneider, Christian Frommelt, and Jenny Shirar for being nothing short of amazing, as well as the instructors from previous years for sharing all their old-timey knowledge with us;
  • The amazing Eva Millwood for creating delicious things for everyone to eat this year and in the past, as well as Megan Adair who did the same thing previously;
  • Because two ladies cannot run an event alone, we thank our tireless volunteers and coordinators for 2013: Kerry Genese, Krystin Larsen, Rachel Pitner, Nathan Reidel, Megan Bowen, and Ali Lodico, as well as all of our volunteers in previous years for helping get things done;
  • Our amazing vendors and sponsors of this year's event for adding to our overall experience in innumerable ways, as well as our past sponsors and vendors for doing the same;
  • Every person in Nashville who ever hosted even one dancer for the event, for helping to make the whole shindig possible--special shout-out to Susan Scott for playing hostess to tens of dancers year after year;
  • The Nashville Swing Dance Foundation for their various forms of support over the past few years;
  • Avenue 2 for being our home base and to every other venue that has hosted our old-timey hijinks over the past five years;

We know, it's a long list, but there's one more big thank you to give, too. To everyone who has ever contributed to the event in any way--whether you paid for a dance, spread the word to your friends, or even just donated string lights for us to see better throughout the weekend--we thank you the most. There are so many details that go into running an event, and there's no way we could have thought of all of them. Without your help and without your various forms of support, we wouldn't have been able to host five years of old-timey dance, music, and cultural celebration. From all the Cumberland Shuffle staff, we say: a million times, thank you!

PS: We look forward to celebrating with you in the future and putting together more great parties, and to that end, we've put together a survey so that we can collect your thoughts and opinions on the weekend. Help us improve by filling out your answers, HERE

With online registration now closed and the start of Cumberland Shuffle less than a week away, we want to help you get prepped!

Of course, we know that you probably want to see Nashville while you're here, too. So we've compiled a list of some places you might want to go, or things you might want to see, while you're in town. And don't forget about our Honky Tonkin' trip on Sunday night or the I Charleston Nashville escapades downtown on Sunday afternoon!

  • Do you like nature 'n stuff? Take a trip to Centennial Park, and swing by the Parthenon, a replica of the ancient monument in Greece!
  • Or maybe you'd rather just look at pretty botanicals? We've got a whole museum for you to do that, at Cheekwood!
  • If you're a fan of music and music history, you'll probably want to drop by Music Row, or maybe the Country Music Hall of Fame.
  • And of course, don't forget to take a look at old Nashville standbys the Grand Ole Opry and the Ryman Auditorium, if you've got time!

Make sure you leave yourself enough time for all the dancing, too, of course. See y'all in Nashville on Friday!

With less than 4 days of online registration remaining, and just over a week until the start of the event, the official Cumberland Shuffle weekend schedule has been posted!

Take a look on our Schedule page at all the fun (scheduled) things that will be happening during the weekend. Then, hurry up and Register if you haven't already, before time runs out! Don't forget there are dance passes still available, too.

If you're just getting antsy with excitement, well...we can't help you there. We're just as excited! But can you blame us? Just look at all the people who will be joining us from all over the United States to help celebrate old-timey dance fun!

With only a week and some hours left until online registration closes on Cumberland Shuffle for good, we're here with a few quick updates!

  • Online registration will close at 12:01AM, Monday March 25th. Registration will still be available at the door if spots are open.
  • There are approximately 40 weekend passes left for the low price of $109. What a steal!
  • Dance passes are still available for $49. Perfect for getting your old-timey dance on and exploring Nashville during the day!
  • Class ratios are currently slightly follower-heavy. So leaders, get your registration in and learn some great stuff!
  • For registrations paid by check and registered on or after March 23: please hold checks. Checks will be taken at the door instead (to account for mailing time).

We'll be continuing to post event updates, reminders, and helpful tips up until the day the event starts, so keep watching our Facebook and Twitter feeds, and the blog, of course!

See y'all in Nashville!

At Cumberland Shuffle, we know that you're more than just an old-timey dance aficionado. That's why we try and pack the event full of things to keep you busy and entertained!

Take, for example, the picture at left: Mike Faltesek, during Cumberland Shuffle 2010, jammin' out on his guitar with about 4 other people and their instruments (not pictured, of course.) We love jazz music so much that we encourage all our attendees to bring their instruments and take some time out to play some of your favorite songs with other attendees. Maybe you want to start a jam at Centennial Park on Saturday afternoon? Or maybe you're more of an end-of-the-night, late-night jazz starter. Either way, we hope you'll feel free to take the music into your own hands!

In addition to unscheduled fun like jazz jams and silly dinner parties, we've got a few things scheduled during the weekend, too. On Saturday afternoon, Emily Schuhmann will be teaching a Vintage Hairstyling class for ladies, open to everyone! We highly encourage you to take part in this unique opportunity, especially before gettin' all dressed up for Vintage Night at Saturday's dance!

We also have the great opportunity to be working with the minds behind I Charleston Nashville, and you have the chance to be a part of it! Andrew and Jon will be organizing all the details for this exciting video venture, and only those who are at the event (or in Nashville) will be able to find out how they can participate. Don't miss out!

Of course, the best way to make sure you catch all the fun at Cumberland Shuffle is to go ahead and Register while you still can. So hop to it!

That's right, it's back! Our Sunday night festivities will include our usual round of honky tonkin', and you won't want to miss it. Year after year, attendees cite Sunday night at the honky tonks as one of their favorite Cumberland Shuffle experiences!

Where else but Nashville can you catch fabulous musicians playing old country and western swing hits from Bob Wills, Porter Waggoner, Hank Williams, and more? We'll take advantage of the city's landscape by heading down Broadway on Sunday night, starting around 9PM at Robert's Western World. Unfortunately, the bars in Nashville are 21 and over only, so we cannot officially endorse minors trying to take part in our honky tonkin' night.

From there, you're free to wander as you like to any number of nearby bars featuring live music. Don't forget to bring cash for drinks and to tip the musicians! Just check out this clip of Bob Wills and his Texas Playboys, get pumped, and make sure you Register to be a part of all the fun!

Big news!

With just under two weeks left to register for Cumberland Shuffle, we have officially sold out of the second tier of registration. That's right, that means there are only 50 weekend passes left for sale!

We also have dance passes available and will be capping those at 75 total. If at any time we are in danger of selling out, we'll be sure to announce on all our channels.

Make sure you don't miss out on the last hurrah for a weekend of great dancing, learning, music, and everything else--go ahead and Register now. The price for a full weekend pass is still only $109, what a steal!

As we get closer to the event, updates on event schedules, class schedules, and other relevant details will continue to be posted, so keep an eye out. And get ready to have a blast in Nashville!
